International Rescue Committee Resettlement is offering Internships at the positions of Asylum Seekers Support Intern. The Asylum Seekers Support Intern will be instrumental in helping newly arrived people seeking asylum who are facing significant barriers to connecting to appropriate services in San Diego.
Responsibilities Of intern
- Support Safety & Wellness caseworkers in providing comprehensive case management and collaboration with community partners.
- Help clients to navigate public transportation.
- Drive and accompany clients to appointments, such as the DMV, health check-ups, legal consults, school enrollment, etc.
- Research community resources to support client needs.
- Assist caseworkers with administrative tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Eligibility
REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent organization and time-management skills
Proactive, motivated, and flexible; able to remain calm and adapt within a fast-paced work environment - Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience volunteering or working with immigrants, refugees, and/or asylum-seekers
- Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment
- Ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
Experience with direct service preferred - Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance and the ability to travel regularly in the area
- English fluency required
- Proficiency in Spanish, Russian, or Mandarin a plus
